On 8th May 2017 an agreement between Sisters of Mercy of St. Borromeo in Trzebnica and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritagewas signed to fund the project of Maintenance and Revitalisation of the post- Cistercian Monastery in Trzebnica- the Historical Monument, in order to extend the touristic and cultural offer, Phase oneaccomplished from the European Funds Operational Programme Infrastructure and The Environment 2014-2020, PRIORITY: VIII Protection of cultural heritage and development of cultural resources OPERATION: 8.1 Protection of cultural heritage and development of cultural resources.
The renovation is the next phase of worksconducted by Sisters of Mercy of St. Borromeo’s to protect and restore the cultural function of the premises.
The restoration and construction works will include:
1. the premises on the ground floor in the monastery – around the north patio (St Hedwig’s)
2. The premises in the main area of the entrance to the monastery, from the Basilica’s side, from the main monastery’s yard and on the ground floor level, from the east side.
3. The north tower – from the third floor. Moreover, the premises will be adapted for the disabled. The aim of the conservation and revitalization of the facilityis a removal of the damages of the historical elements of the post-Cistercian monastery, preventing it from further destruction and restoring its previous glory and original appearance. The restoration and construction work, together with exchanging of the wiring and plumbing, will not only ensure its better functionality, aesthetics and the quality of use of the post-Cistercian premises for the local community, but also increase the cultural, touristic and economic value of Trzebnica.The recipientsof the rich cultural-educational offer, prepared by Sisters of Mercy of St. Borromeo, apart from the users, will be various cultural organisations, schools, universities and non-governmental organisations and associations.
